SNOW PLANET FUN

Friday 28 September 2012

After a winter term full of horrible weather and illnesses we decided it was time for some fun, so we went for our annual trip to Snow Planet in Silverdale. After arriving there on the bus we had our morning tea in their entryway as it was raining and we could not use their picnic area.

After refuelling our bodies we went into the snow dome where we had so much fun riding the toboggans and tubes. When it was time to finish we went into the café to warm up by the fire with hot chips for lunch before getting back on the bus and returning to Kindergarten.  It is hard to say who had the most fun, the children their parents or the teachers.

A VISIT TO AUCKLAND ZOO

On Friday 16th June we took our morning children to Auckland Zoo to see the animals in real life. We have had an ongoing project all year that has evolved from metamorphosis to the differences between reptiles, mammals and amphibians to the types of habitats different animals live in.

In our post trip discussions one of the children told me that - "the meercat lives in the African desert and makes a warning screeching sound when predators come" when we were talking about what we saw. What a wonderful opportunity for the children to see the animals we have been discussing at Kindergarten.

The music on the video is downloaded from Jamendo.com

BUTTERFLY CREEK

23 March 2012

What a wonderful day our morning children had when we went to Butterfly Creek! We saw HUGE crocodiles, and a baby one we could touch. We saw so many beautiful butterflies, insects, and really enjoyed the farm. After lunch we played in the playground before having a train ride just before we got on the bus to go back to Kindergarten.

PLAYBALL FUN!

We are so lucky! Some of our children go to 'Playball' with Coach Clarke and this week he came to Kindergarten to do it with everyone! Clarke came to both morning and afternoon sessions with some of the other coaches and everyone had SO MUCH FUN! We did lots of ball and body games and everyone had a turn.

Hopefully Clarke and his team will come again another day.

PIRATE DAY!

We have had a lot of Pirates at Greenhithe Kindergarten this year and have even had to update our Pirate dress ups to add to the fun. Everyone has made Pirate treasure maps, Pirate flags and Pirate hats. So, the next thing to do was have a Pirate Feast.
What fun everyone had. Everyone brought along some yummy party food and after we had eaten, Max found a treasure map in the tyre swing. That was the beginning of a very exciting treasure hunt all over the Kindergarten, which ended when Crystal dug up a treasure chest. Hidden inside was a special bag with wishing stones in it, and everyone got to take one home at the end of the party.
Maybe we will have another Pirate Feast another day.

MORE VOLCANO ACTION

We have a fabulous model volcano at our Kindergarten that even shows the inside of a real volcano and we can make lava to come out of it too. So, we all watched while I read the lava recipe and made it work. It didn't fly up in the air like the ones we had seen on You Tube do but it was still rather exciting.

VOLCANOES

We have had a lot of interest in volcanoes this week with the ash clouds from the Chilean volcano grounding planes in New Zealand being a current topical event in the news.
We have looked at eruptions on You Tube, discussed how we have had many volcanoes erupt in New Zealand, with many of us having climbed to the top of our most recent volcanic creation in Auckland, Rangitoto Island.  And we have made volcanoes in the sand pit, complete with vinegar and baking soda lava.
The children spent a long time creating their volcano, watched the lava flow and then reduced the mountain to level ground again within seconds.
